Really enjoyed seeing these William English photographs exhibited at Maggs last week. William took several photographs of Vivienne Westwood in the Sex shop in early 1975 when he was a budding film student, eager to get into a London school. The idea backfired when he produced the portfolio, as the entrance examiners assumed he was only interested in making pornography.

Mr G interviewed William last week.

Colourful clothes for gloomy days as the news is in that the temperature will drop drastically in the UK early next week, while back in my homeland Australia it is over 43 degrees for the third day in a row.
I will console myself with Frieda Kahlo’s dresses, and remind myself that I hope to make it to Mexico City this year to see Alice.

From the book Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress: Frida’s Wardrobe
and via Atlantis Home.

Liz Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance is one hot lady. And gap-toothed as it happens.

Photos by Akahiro Imamura from Myspace.
Gang Gang Dance led the east coast Boadrum 88 concert of 88 drummers, which took place on 8 August 2008, starting at 8.08pm. The concerts were conceived (and hosted in LA) by The Boredoms. The New York concert took place on the Williamsburg waterfront, of course.
Reminds me of when Cindy and I camped in the mountains in Ibiza and met the German family who were techno Djs in Berlin, wore leather “garments” and now got their kicks from all night trance drumming. Boadrum 88 was sponsored by Nike, wheras our German couple were brought to us by years and years of acid.
My birthday this year will be 09/09/09. I think it’s too late for my Saturn’s Return, but if anyone has a drum kit I’ll hit it nine times for luck.

I did find the blogging hoo-ha around the launch of CDG for H&M a mite tedious. But probably just because I usually find those designer hook-ups leave me feeling really let down. It’s either the fabric or the finish or the cut - there’s always a casualty to the hype.
In this case I did pop in for a look the next day out of idle curiosity. I expected a crater with a few remaining spots. I got to see the remnants of the collection, minus the piece I may have been tempted to buy - the crotch-drop trouser.
Since a travel stint in asia I have cherished two pairs of softest cotton cropped fisherman’s pants, and they form a serious component of my working at home uniform. Alone in summer and with wrinkled-at-ankle long-johns in winter. That’s where I thought the CDG may slot in, being as they are in wool gabardine.
Obviously the churidar styling is a tough one to pull of for the curvier lady, but these images from Max Tilke’s Oriental Costumes: Their Designs and Colors should serve as inspiration.

To ebay it is then…
