As sure as Frank Zappa has lavender trews, Frank Zappa’s parents have purple walls.

Roisin Murphy

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Mr G and I had SUCH a great dance up at the Roisin Murphy gig at Brixton Academy on Saturday night. What a pop star.

In a strange coincidence when I looked up “Roisin Murphy Brixton” on Flickr I came across a photograph of a man who rudely pushed in front of me at the bar. I’m sure he didn’t mean to *sigh*, but that really gets me down.

Still it was a great night - Christophe Coppens’ wild stage gear, the light show, the friendly crowd, dancing up the back, old songs, news songs, drinking pints (!).

Such fun.

It’s Friday night!

How to accessorise the vintage leather corset…?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Matching boots of course!

I missed this vintage (and tiny) French leather corset on ebay, only because I stumbled on it minutes before the auction ended.

Then as if to taunt me further these boots appeared via Wikstenmade on ebay, 3 sizes too small for me!! Oy vey!

I remember an interview with Melissa Auf Der Maur in a Sunday supplement a few years ago, maybe just after she’d left Hole, where she wore knee-high lace-up Victorian boots with worn-thin jeans and a simple black and white thin striped top. Perfect. I have just spend half an hour trying to find it, and if anyone does I will kiss them on the mouth.

Here she is looking like she wants to climb in that corset and play some bass.

Eva Vermandel and sigur rós

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Tonight at the Whitechapel Gallery there’s a private view of Eva Vermandel’s photographic diary of her time in the studio and touring with Icelandic band sigur rós.

Eva’s folio of portraits includes Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Stella Vine, and some years back she shot Mr Gorman, surrounded by his then-girlfriend’s cats, for a book project on ‘interesting people’. I’m partial to her portrait of Alela Diane.

These photos are from her recent Versterker series:

Alongside the prints will be a short clip from Superduck’s forthcoming documentary about the band, for which he travelled to Iceland, Mexico, England and America. Lucky dog. The documentary screens in full in November.

The end of Summer

Lately I’ve been living in a Glass Candy world, but with the rain outside and the temperature dropping I’m thinking I’ve dribbled ice cream on my stockings for the very last time this year…
