Looking out my back door

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I spoke to my bro in Australia today as it’s his birthday. He was sitting on the verandah about to have a beer and it was about 30 degrees celsius. I was chatting to him gazing out our back window at about a foot of snow and counting. Eight years of living here and it still freaks me out.

I’m deep in 1970 at the moment. Hence the Creedence. They have a special place in our family history and mythology so this is for my sister who loves John Fogarty and who I know reads this blog every day.

Two words about John: gap teeth.

Ralli Quilts

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I resurrected an old Ralli Quilt from near death recently, thanks to advice from an expert. Thanks Rayela!

I love them and if I ever get to India or Pakistan my case will be full. I’ve always liked the backs better than the fronts.

Perfect imperfection. Another book for the most wanted list.

Terence Conran’s House Book

The Achille Castiglionni light in the final image is amazing, but is cropped. You will just have to buy your own copy…

Aaahhh that’s better…

HA! Just kidding. Well the house looks like that but I sure as hell don’t.

I’ll take the shoes, gloves and jewellery but I think I’ll pass on the dress thanks.

Bookshelves of the soul

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Peaches Geldof and pals on The Selby today. WOW. Fabulous teen angst reading list.

Check it out - let’s see what we got: Pynchon, Jung, Paglia, Thoreau, Cervantes, Asimov, Lessing, Vonnegut, Coehlo and a healthy dose of self-helpy type numbers.

The Celestine Prophesies? Check.

It’s hilarious and great. Epecially when you contrast this with the interview.

I like to think this is what my boxes of books for Uni were like when I packed to go, before I realised that almost the whole place was made up of Singaporean marketing students, engineering students and a few lesbians.  Hanging with the latter ensured that The Mists of Avalon was summer reading, and I did have a book called Women Who Run With The Wolves. (Hi Mel and Gina!)

Now my bookshelves are far less high-minded and self-concious. Wodehouse, cookbooks, trash, biogs, rudeys, dog training guides and piccy books.

Just off to colour code them now…

As sure as Frank Zappa has lavender trews, Frank Zappa’s parents have purple walls.
